Welcome to the Latin American International Sports Hall of Fame

Queridos amigos:
The year 2012 marks an important milestone for the Latin American International Sports Hall of Fame as we celebrate our 37th anniversary. In 1975, a small group of Laredoans founded an organization to promote the contributions of Latinos in both the world of sports and in the promotion of our culture. Since that first meeting, the Latin American International Sports Hall of Fame has grown in prestige and in renown. Numerous sports figures and personalities have graced our presence, including boxing greats, baseball heroes and coaching legends.
The Class of 2012 brings with it a particular poignancy, as we honor several trailblazers, individuals who broke down barriers, shattered stereotypes and became champions on and off the sporting field. Although we pay homage to their contributions by enshrining them in our Hall of Fame, they honor us by being here.
This year also marks a new chapter in the life of the Latin American International Sports Hall of Fame as we will finally have a physical home, a place where people can come and see the invaluable treasures we have amassed throughout the years. They will soon be able to see pictures of our honorees, study the memoriabilia and relive some historical moments at our upcoming Hall of Fame Center. None of this would have been possible without the generous support of the Benavides family, who will be providing us with the use of their building in historic downtown Laredo. To them, we are eternally grateful.
To all of you who have supported us throughout these four decades, we extend our deepest gratitude. Without you, none of this would have been possible. To our inductees, we stand in awe at your accomplishments and thank you for being here with us. This is your night.
Adelante!
